·︎·︎·︎ ORIGIN ·︎·︎·︎
The origin of Pilates Pilates was created by Joseph H. Pilates, who was born in Germany in the year 1880. It was while rehabilitating disabled people during World War I that Pilates began to create his apparatuses and exercise regime that he is famous for today.

Pilates is a sequence of exercises developed and practiced to simultaneously stretch, strengthen, tone and align the body, while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints. Workouts are performed on specialized, spring-based resistance equipment which encourages core strength and won’t bulk muscles. All sessions focus on the quality, not the quantity of the exercise.

It is the mind-body connection that truly makes Pilates unique and today, doctors everywhere are recommending the Pilates Method for keeping the body strong.
How often is Pilates done?

The Pilates Method should be done three times a week for best results. There are no real secrets to The Pilates Method; only maintaining good form with the proper breathing techniques, through a series of rhythmic and controlled movements. While you should feel and see results fairly quickly, integrating a Pilates “routine” into your weekly schedule that is realistic for you to stick with long term is ideal.
How are Pilates & Yoga different?

Pilates mainly concentrates on cultivating core strength in the body and lengthening the spine. Also, Pilates is a valuable tool for increasing strength, definition and proper posture. Yoga aims to work the body equally and unite the body with mind and spirit, and is considered more therapeutic.

Yoga has many different styles, but all are generally performed in a group setting on a yoga mat with the aid of a yoga instructor. Pilates has a full component of mat work, but it also incorporates work on Pilates apparatus which help build a longer, leaner, dancer-like physique.
·︎·︎·︎ OUR STAFF ·︎·︎·︎

Kylie Mulholland
Certified Pilates Instructor
(Indialantic Location)

Kylie Mulholland was a Former Division 1 Softball player and has been instructing Joseph Pilates’ methods of exercise for two years now! Her passion is surfing (big reason she moved to Melbourne Beach). She learned how to teach on the reformer. She found that the reformer is a lot like moving through water with the resistance the machine gives you, and the levels of springs to use. Using the reformer helps Kylie as a surfer, but also helps with lengthening and strengthening the body without putting too much weight on the skeletal system.

She is a big believer of listening to your body and the Pilates method allows you to do so. She also instructs a high intensity interval training program (HIIT) that is much more vigorous; in essence, it’s a bootcamp. She likes to cross-train to keep her cardiovascular system where it needs to be and to push herself every week! Kylie is high energy and she always feel like a champion after each workout. Her goals is for clients to feel accomplished when they have finished their session.

Certified Pilates Instructor
(Indialantic Location)

A classically trained ballerina, Ms. Heidenreich received her traditional Pilates certification in 1999 from Colleen Glenn of Glenn Studios in Dallas, TX. Her passion for health, wellness, injury prevention and rehab led her to hang up her pointe shoes and focus full time on helping others find comfort and confidence in their own bodies.

Tonia has spent the past 25 years studying anatomy, proper body mechanics and injury rehabilitation to teach her students the benefits of the Pilates method as originally taught by Joseph H. Pilates. She has attended the Pilates Method Alliance conference in Denver, CO as well as continuing education courses with master teachers from all over the country.

Her desire to educate others on the classical Pilates tradition has led her to help train the next generation of teachers through instructor training programs for both Pilates Unlimited (Dallas, TX) and In Balance Pilates (Wilmington, NC). Having recently relocated to Melbourne Beach from Charleston, SC, she is excited to be given the opportunity to join the incredible team of instructors at Pilates On Fifth.
Troy Towns
Nationally Certified Pilates Instructor
(Suntree Location)

Troy was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he performed in shows on the Las Vegas Strip for over 13 years as a professional dancer. His passion for movement is what led him to Pilates in 2011, but it was the rehabilitative and healing power of Pilates that inspired him to become a Certified Pilates instructor in 2012. Later that year, he also became a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher through the Pilates Method Alliance. Starting with just one Reformer in a home studio,

Troy was able to build up an amazing Pilates family, which then led to his opening a commercial studio in Las Vegas in 2017 with his wife Sandy. Their Pilates family continued to grow, and in 2020 and 2021, the studio was voted “Best Pilates Studio” in the Las Vegas Review Journal’s “Best of Las Vegas Contest”. In July of 2022, after a lifetime in Las Vegas, Troy relocated to Florida to be near his wife’s family.

Over the last decade, Troy has worked with a range of clients, from first time movers to professional athletes. He has extensive experience in working with clients with all sorts of physical limitations and asymmetries including both pre and post-op rehab clients. He is also certified in pre and postnatal Pilates as well as Pilates for Scoliosis. Whether he’s teaching a group class or a private session, Troy approaches all his classes from a personal trainer perspective, offering creative modifications of the classical Pilates repertoire to keep his clients fully engaged and inspired.

Sandy Towns
Nationally Certified Pilates Instructor
(Suntree Location)

Sandy grew up in Merritt Island and spent her childhood training to become a professional dancer. At the age of 20 she moved to Las Vegas where she had an 11-year career dancing in major production shows on the Las Vegas Strip. During that time, Sandy attended UNLV and graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in accounting. In 1994, she retired from dancing to become a CPA.

Sandy was first introduced to the rehabilitative benefits of Pilates in 1990 while undergoing physical therapy for a dance injury. It was not until many years later, that she began taking Pilates classes at a local studio. She instantly fell in love with the “movement science” behind the Method, and even encouraged her husband Troy to become a certified Pilates instructor. As she watched Troy teach every day in their home studio, her passion for Pilates grew, and in 2016 she began pursuing her National
Pilates Certification.

In 2017 she and Troy transitioned their home studio to a beautiful commercial location, and Pilates 4 Life was born. Over the years Sandy has worked with a diverse population of students from every age group and experience level. She also had the privilege of teaching and developing a Pilates cross-training
program for a company of amazing young pre-professional ballet dancers in Las Vegas.

In 2022, Sandy and her husband relocated to Florida to be near her family. She is thrilled to be back in her home state, teaching what she loves. Sandy truly believes that movement changes everything!

Leah Riggenbach
Certified Pilates Instructor
(Suntree Location)

Hi, my name is Leah, and I had the privilege of being certified by Romana Kryzanowska through the Pilates Studio in 1997. It has been a joy to share the work of Joseph Pilates with each client that I have met since then.
Over the years, I have achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Ohio University, as well as an Associates of Science degree as a physical therapy assistant from Northern Virginia Community College. This background has allowed me the opportunity to use the fundamentals of body mechanics as well as the creativity of movement to adapt Pilates principles to exercises that meet the needs of each individual client.

I have been a resident of Brevard county since 2006, am a wife of over 20 years to my rock of a husband, and the mother of 2 absolutely amazing young adults. I look forward to joining you on your journey to becoming stronger in mind, body, and spirit though Pilates.

In 2022, Sandy and her husband relocated to Florida to be near her family. She is thrilled to be back in her home state, teaching what she loves. Sandy truly believes that movement changes everything!
